As my final assignment for Storytelling for Influence I decided to tell the story of Marleni, a graduate of the Amantaní program in Ccorca, Perú, as a way to increase donations to the charity. Written, created, edited, and narrated by me.
Storytelling for Influence is one of the required courses part of the Advanced Design Thinking certification by IDEO U.
The purpose of the class was to help solve the question of “how might we inspire households to adopt healthier eating habits?” In order to help answer the question, I gathered a handful of friends and asked them that very question. I grouped their answers by similar patterns, and surely enough one theme stood out the most as there being a lack of education for children around nutrition and overall well-being. That led me to the idea of a streaming platform called ‘chomp’, which would ideally help answer the question. Here is the pitch I created as the final project.

The purpose of the class was to help solve the question of “how might we inspire households to adopt healthier eating habits” by acquiring insights into people’s eating habits. For this assignment I chose to observe a couple friend of mine as they prepared lunch in their kitchen, as well as a single mom and child as she got ready for the day and made breakfast. I interviewed my partner’s trainer to gather some insights into how a family made food choices. Lastly as an ’empathy challenge’ I calculated what it would be like to be unemployed and on a very tight budget, and gave myself an allowance of £12 for the week after deducting living expenses to see if I was able to eat healthily on such small budget.
